Here we are again looking forward to another day in the sheds; a good turnout of the "regulars" today and a welcome return from New Zealand to Jim. Frank is out today so Bob Allen is assigning our tasks...
The Standard 4 76017 has moved from the wheeldrop into the main workshop, next to the Standard 5 which has had it's front bogie re-fitted since last weeks visit. 73096's piston still awaits fitting to it's new cylinder though.
Bob is still beavering away with the gas-axe at those seemingly immoveable saddle bolts; there is a strong rumour that the boiler will be lifted during next week, so he has a deadline!
But boss Bob has lead the rest of us into the wheeldrop shed where now resides Lord Nelson. Several tasks need doing; her location in the wheeldrop being a bit of a give-away...
The rear axle has developed a lot of movement within the frame so removal of the springs and fittings around said axle is one job but of course, before that can be done, all the motion has to be removed. With about 8 volunteers committed to that, it was off by mid-morning, ready for climbing down into the pit to start the dirty job of removing springs and associated gubbins...
Until next week.
Dave.
