Getting to the Watercress Line by Car, Train, Bus and Air


By Car, we recommend you start your journey at Alresford or Alton stations.Get to the MHR Map

From London follow the A3 to Guildford, then take the A31 to Alton or on to Alresford.

From the M3 take Junction 9 southbound or Junction 10 northbound and join the A31 to Alresford or on to Alton.

Parking is available at Alresford and Alton stations 7 days a week.

Extra parking may be available at Ropley during certain special events. Please check the respective special event page on this site for details.

We recommend our disabled passengers join the railway at Alresford Station as it is on a single level. Disabled parking is available in the car park by the station, for more information click here.

 


By Train, we recommend you start your journey at Alton station due to our mainline link.

SouthWest Trains offer a half hourly service from London Waterloo station, via Woking. The latest SWT timetable (15/05/10) between Alton and London can be seen here.

Passengers can reach the Watercress Line from anywhere on the national rail network, for more information please visit The Train Line who give pricing and route information from your nearest station

Passengers arriving in the UK on the Eurostar service can transfer from St. Pancras to Waterloo stations via the London Underground.

(Victoria Line to Oxford Circus, then Bakerloo line to Waterloo)

 


By Bus, we recommend you start your journey at Alresford or Alton dependant on your start point.

Stagecoach offer half hourly bus services (64 & X64) between Winchester and Alton, connecting with all Watercress Line stations.

National Express coaches operate from around the UK connecting with bus services from Winchester to our stations.



By Air, we recommend starting at either Alresford or Alton stations depending on your airport.

The nearest airport to the Watercress Line is Southampton, offering flights to numerous destinations within the United Kingdom and Europe. From here SouthWest Trains offer services to Woking and then on to Alton. Alternatively Stagecoach offer bus services to Winchester and then on to Alresford.

From London Heathrow follow RailAir signs, which offer a 1 hour bus connection to Woking station, where SouthWest Trains offer regular rail services to Alton.
