Alton station: MHR's link with UK main line network

The Watercress Line steam railway in Hampshire. Friendliest steam railway people in UK make every visit a pleasure
Alton station provides the Mid-Hants Railway with its direct access to the UK main line, both as a connection for passengers arriving from (e.g.) London Waterloo, and also for our trains to go out on main line excursions.

A couple of  photos of Alton from yesterday showing the nicely painted toilet block and all three platforms occupied.
As usual Joan Richardson's display of flowers decorates platform 3, and she seems to be there daily tending them.

26th August 2006:

This year the floral display has been extended across the whole station thanks to a scheme jointly funded by SWT and MHR.  The SWT staff have continued adding to their display thoughtout the summer and the station looks a treat at present.
Joan Richardson has got the platform 3 display up to its usual standard but has also worked with the SWT staff: staff from both sides have been hard pushed with the watering can during this long dry summer to keep the displays up together.
We have received staunch support from SWT and the project was started as a way to promote closer ties between both staffs at Alton. Congratulations to all concerned on your hard work and for impressive results that we can all be proud of.
The pictures are a view down platform 3 showing the display on that side of the station, and of Joan Richardson (far right) with some of the SWT staff who have been involved with the scheme.
