Let the train take the strain as you sit back, relax and travel through the heart of the English countryside by steam train.
You can choose to start your journey from either Alton or Alresford.
There are four period stations along the line and your ticket gives you unlimited day travel with the opportunity to hop on and off as you wish at each station.
Pre-book something a little extra:
- Choose one of six fascinating talks as part of your group ticket, all topics are related to the Heritage Lottery Funded Canadian Pacific Project
- Enjoy a delicious lunch or traditional cream tea available Tuesday – Thursday from May to September, subject to availability and for a maximum of 60 people
- Get your group chatting and sharing memories of the days of steam travel with a Basket of Memories including photos, artefacts and music from the 1940s – 1970s.
- Take a Behind the Scenes Tour to see where the locomotives and carriages are restored by taking a guided tour around the engineering workshops with one of our knowledgeable volunteers
Group bookings can be made on running days throughout the operating calendar with discounted fares for 15+ and 30+ available on standard travel (non-event) days.
Free coach parking is available for coaches at Alresford station if pre-arranged at the time of booking and coach drivers receive a free tea or coffee in our West Country Buffet. For groups requiring disabled access we recommend starting your journey at Alresford, full details can be seen on our Disabled Access page.
You may want to combine your visit with one of three nearby attractions, Jane Austen’s House Museum, Basingstoke Canal or Milestones Museum.
Combined attraction bookings can all be made via the Watercress Line for added ease. The railway has a specially adapted carriage for up to six wheelchairs and ramps to aid boarding for the less mobile.
