The Watercress Line is located just off the A31, about seven miles from Winchester.
By Car, we recommend you start your journey at Alresford or Alton stations.
From London: either take the A3 south to Guildford, or M3 southbound to Junction 9, and then follow the A31 to Alton and Alresford.
From the North: take the A34 south to Winchester, or M3 southbound exit Junction 9, and follow the A31 to Alresford or on to Alton.
From the South and West: head to Winchester and the A34/M3 Junction 9, or Junction 10 northbound, and follow the A31 to Alresford or on to Alton.
From the East: take the M27 westbound to Southampton and the M3 north to Junction 10 or 9 and follow the A31 to Alresford, or take the A272 west from Petersfield and follow the signs to either Alton or Alresford.
Alresford station car park is operated by Winchester City Council, with an overflow car park in Perins School level one, accessed from Jacklyns Lane. All Pay and Display at 30p per hour, £1.50 for over 4 hours, coins only. Free on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Please ensure you park in the marked bays only. Additional parking at Perins School on levels 2 and 3 during school holidays only, accessed from The Avenue. Perins School is less than a five minute walk away.
Alton station car parks are operated by South West Trains 7 days a week. There are two car parks that operate independently, the main one in front of the station and one to the left behind the new Waitrose store, past the industrial units. These have a one off charge at £6.50 peak/£3.00 Saturday/£2.00 Sunday/£3 public holiday. The main car park has one coin operated pay and display machine or you can pay by phone on 01483 345345, location 7475. Please note that the second car park is not an overflow, but is a separate Pay by Phone ONLY car park on 01483 345345 code 7458. Tickets purchased for one cannot be used in the other. We therefore advise you to find your parking space and then pay for the ticket.
Other Alton town car parks are available along Draymans Way, just a short walk from the station. Please DO NOT park in the Waitrose store car park.
SWT operate platforms 1 and 2 at Alton, The Watercress Line operates from platform 3. Please cross the footbridge to purchase your Watercress Line tickets on platform 3. Watercress Line tickets are not available from the SWT booking office.
Ropley station car park is accessible from Bighton Hill, off of the A31 and shares an entrance with the Watercress Lodges (SO24 9SQ). Please follow the Watercress Lodges signs from the A31. This car park is not accessible during the special events when alternate free parking is available in the field at Ropley station. On arrival at Ropley you can purchase your tickets from the station booking office (subject to availability) or from the Ticketing Inspector on the train.
There is no visitor parking at Medstead and Four Marks Station.
We respectfully remind visitors not to park in any designated, permit controlled residents parking areas at any of the stations.

By Train, we have a mainline link at Alton station, where South West Trains operate platforms 1 & 2 and the Watercress Line runs from platform 3. Please purchase your Watercress Line tickets on arrival at Alton from our shop on Platform 3.
South West Trains offer a half hourly service from London Waterloo station, via Woking (hourly service on Sundays until midday). A direct train from Waterloo to Alton takes just over one hour.

By Bus, we recommend you start your journey at Alresford or Alton. Depending on your start point:
Stagecoach offer a single bus services (64) between Winchester and Alton, connecting with all Watercress Line stations.
Velvet Bus offer a single bus service (67) between Winchester and Alresford.
National Express coaches operate from around the UK connecting with bus services from Winchester to our stations.
By Air, we recommend starting at either Alresford or Alton stations depending on your airport.
The nearest airport to the Watercress Line is Southampton, offering flights to numerous destinations within the United Kingdom and Europe. From here South West Trains offer services to Woking and then on to Alton. Alternatively Stagecoach offer bus services to Winchester and then on to Alresford.
From London Heathrow follow RailAir signs, which offer a 1 hour bus connection to Woking station, where SouthWest Trains offer regular rail services to Alton.
From London Gatwick take the Southern Trains service to Clapham Junction (en route to Victoria station) and change here for regular South West Trains services to Alton.
