I did the Yeovil Jn trip behind 34016 on Thursday so I thought you might like the attached logs for the web site.
The outward run was right up to 'Bodmin' standards. The romp away from Romsey was great, with 70mph being achieved after 10 miles of almost unbroken upward gradients.
Over 51% of the 62.5 mile route to Yeovil Junction was covered at over 60mph. The fastest stretch was before Gillingham, with 14.5 miles being covered at an average of 69mph. The maximum speed on the outward journey was 72mph, four miles west of Gillingham.
The only late running throughout the whole round trip was a 1.5 minute late arrival at Yeovil Jn due to a severe signal check after Wyke Crossing. Virtually all arrival times were ahead of the working schedule.
The return trip, of 69.6 miles total, 36% of it was covered at over 60mph. Top speed on the return journey 76mph at Templecombe.
The climb from Gillingham to Semley was pretty good with a drop of only 8mph, from 62.4mph to 50.9mph. This would require estimated outputs of 1836 ihp, 1716 rhp and 1520 edhp - excellent figures! The climb out of Sherborne was also good with an average of 51mph over the last quarter mile to the summit. It would be fair to say that a nine-coach load isn't too taxing for a Bulleid light Pacific, on the other hand this class of loco tends to be in a class of its own for a 7P classification.
Generally speaking the loco worked like clockwork (despite a bit of 3-cylinder syncopation), with schedule gains on each section.
