A highly popular and enjoyable event

Alton Bus Rally  20th July 2008

Horace Ward sent this photo-report:

Spent four hours there, also had a display overhead of the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane from Farnborough as well...
The biggest thing at the Rally was the free rides - I've never come across such crowds, even watched the disabled waving their sticks in the queue to get the best seats on the coaches. You could run one of these events a few times a year when it comes to "Free Rides"... it reminded me of Victoria Coach Station after the last war when everyone wanted to go to the seaside: packed to the rafters. This was a very popular corner of the park. Sort of 'get crushed under the scrum' - amazing.
With oil prices rising how long will these get-togethers be with us...?

I just admire these owners of everything there, how they keep them in good condition, the storage facilies they must have and the cost of running them. At least with my Rolleis and Graphics (and I have people come up to me and ask questions and admire) with these at least I can put them in a bag and in a cupboard..these rally collectors cannot.
Ah well...enjoy while we can I suppose, Tony.
Regards,
Horace

Alton Bus Rally 15 July 2007

A personal selection of some of the many interesting vehicles on show at this year's bus rally at Anstey Park, Alton.
This was another excellent day, a couple of heavy showers notwithstanding.
Thanks to Alan, Claire and all the MHR volunteers and friends who pull the stops out every year to put on such a splendid show - and of course to the many vehicle owners and drivers who make it all possible.
