Jinty and crew wait in the cattle dock at Alresford to take the next shuttle back to Ropley

Why are they waiting?  The secret of the non-stop Gala action at all MHR stations (especially at Ropley - the hub) is the timetabling of the shuttles.
Keith Lawrence recorded a sequence at Alresford:
   1.  The Black Five runs round to the front of its Alton-Alresford train;
   2. Almost immediately the Jinty arrives with a Ropley-Alresford 'local';
   3.  Douglas promptly leaves the cattle dock; and ...
   4.  ... couples to the Alresford-Ropley 'local'.
Once the 'local' has reached Ropley, the up semi-fast is released for Alton.     Timetable (.doc format, 59KB) to download
