MHR Official Website Loco Shed pages comprise the original heritage steam railway 'docu-soap website', often updated several times each day. Follow our volunteers as they work to keep steam alive (much preferable to dead in a museum, we think!) Watch over their shoulders as these wonderful machines are restored, maintained and run; see replacement parts being made and fitted. Visit us to see, hear and again experience for yourself the thrill of powerful steam locos working hard for mile upon mile up our long, steep gradients

| Chris Cornell (MHRPS Archivist) has completed the
display at
Ropley station house of a typical stationmaster's sitting room in the
mid-1950s, the period our railway depicts. Chris Churcher (MHR fireman and an early TV and radio enthusiast) has arranged a 1950s TV set to show the black & white programmes of those days in the appropriate 405-line definition! (I spoke with several visitors who remember those days very clearly, and all were effusive about how convincing the whole room is. ... tw) |

It's usually the
magnificent locos and rolling stock that
grab the attention, but the staff play a very important role as well.

| 28th April 2007: The railway was abuzz on the first day of the 30th Anniversary event: not only was there a series of displays of cars of the relevant period, free bus trips, Morris dancers, loco shed tours, and an exhibition of our archive of photos, plans and newspaper articles from the very early days of our venture, there was a newcomer at the cattle dock in Alresford. A hastily-plotted surprise had been arranged for MHR people arriving for the evening's Volunteers Meeting in the Old Goods Shed: the newly-purchased double-chimney Std 4 #75079. There is no tender, but with typical MHR humour, Bob Deeth had parked the flatbed truck behind it - still with remnants of coal supplied for Percy at our recent Thomas event. A senior loco shed spokesman said: "Not a problem. We can make a new tender for it. It'll be a high-sided BR1B tender - nothing too complicated there." Two photos (28th April
