25th October 2002 was boiler inspection day

In the yard, Keith was bringing #73096 up to pressure for the inspectors.
He couldn't resist using the new chain to blow the whistle.
Sounds well

Checking the setting of the first safety valve of #73096, then clamping it off

Brian Howard (boiler inspector) and Andy then checked the second safety valve setting

(Right): That's the whistle-valve Steve made, and the new whistle, made yesterday.  The rod (top) links the valve to a central lever high in the cab, and a chain will be added for easy access by driver or fireman.

(Below): The 'bags' (which deliver water to the injectors) arrived mid-afternoon today, and Clive secured them to the hose-couplings right away so that Neil could install them either side between cab and tender

9th October 2002:

The signwriter had just finished and the loco was getting admiring glances from shed staff. Duncan was later securing the handrails with taper-pins

Still to do: refit regulator rod, install cab floor, paint running plate
