The new fabricated dragbox (the original was a casting) is temporarily installed. Steve was tacking everything together. Here he's using a straight-edge to check the pin-bush fit.

Steve Humby our fabricator-welder, looking quite pleased to be one of the few to cut a steam loco's frames since the 1960s!

Both sides will be cut at the dotted line, these front sections will be replaced with new, and strengthening plates will reinforce the weld.

The arrival in late November 2001 (at the new MHR shop in the Edward Knight Centre, Alresford station) of a brand-new Limited Edition Hornby 00 model of A4 'Bittern' brought a lot of interest. Sure to appreciate in value from its selling price of £89.95 so demand will be brisk.
I had a look and the detail is excellent. (Liked the spring buffers!)  .....  tw
