Restoration of Gresley A4: #60019 'Bittern'
at the Mid-Hants Railway

(Return of the boiler from Chatham, 9th December 2004)

9th December 2004:

Bittern's boiler, back from Chatham, is lifted onto a pair of trolleys by the 45-ton steam crane DS1580

It will be subjected to further hydraulic, then steam tests off the frames (see U-Class #31625 and Bodmin)

The smokebox, temporarily bolted on, will be rivetted at Ropley

The streamlined boiler cladding and cab will be removed for the boiler to be mounted in the frames
