Front view into the right-hand steam-chest shows the porting.  Plug visible in the middle seals the hole for the pre-rebuild valve-actuating shaft.
Bodmin's boiler was fitted to the frames at Ropley on 24th December 1999.

The Wiseman family fabricated a beautiful-looking ashpan, now in Ropley Yard, so steam tests can be done once this is fitted.

Bodmin's superheater header is now on the bench for pressure testing. All those element holes will be blanked with rubber balls, held in place with a steel plate.

Steve Humby checks the new smokebox, just arrived from Pridhams.
The door is not a good fit because the seating is dished.

(By 1st February 2000  Steve had cut the hole in the smokebox for the huge chimney)

25th January 2000

David and Frank had the header on and off a dozen or more times, blueing and scraping the main steampipe face to get a steam-tight fit at the header flange.

More volunteers with engineering skills will need to turn up regularly to help if we are to maintain the present progress with Bodmin, and keep to schedule for the mainline programme.
