| Whilst the steam locomotives on the railway attract much attention, the
carriages are sometimes overlooked, even though they play a significant
part in passengers' impression of the railway. The arduous work of maintenance and
restoration of our carriage stock
deserves wider recognition. At the weekend of 23/24 June 2007, two newly refurbished TSOs (S3769 & S4977) were in service after a complete makeover. As well as overhaul of the running gear and exterior bodywork, much of the interior needed attention: Replacement of rotten flooring and side and roof panelling; The opportunity was also taken to apply new paint and varnish throughout, as appropriate. The first six photographs by Jim Lawrence show the work in progress and give an idea of the scale of the task. TSO = "Tourist Second Open" |

| The next six photographs by Mike Pearson show the finished carriages. S4977, with blue upholstery and formica tables, has a panelled vestibule for buggies and pushchairs in the space originally occupied by the toilets. In S3769, which has grey upholstery and varnished wood panelling, the two toilets have been retained. |
