Tony,
As you probably know, diesel 08288 is
at Wabtec Rail Doncaster Works
for retyring. When I visited yesterday the work was well advanced with one
axle retyred, one about to be retyred and the tyres for the third axles being
machined.
I thought theses pics would be of interest:
A tyre being machined on the vertical borer
prior to fitting.
A machined tyre ready for fitting.
A tyre in the gas ring ready for heating.
A wheelset with the tyres removed and having
been machined ready to accept the new tyres.
One axle which has already been retyred
with a second axle already machined and awaiting tyres.
An axle with new tyres fitted.
The loco should be back at the MHR by the second week of October.

Tony,
I was contacted by
Alderney
Railway, Channel Islands and asked if I would take a look at their
1949 Vulcan Drewry diesel mechanical shunter
as it was clanking a bit and the tyres possibly needed turning.
Flew out yesterday with Frank and this is the
clearance we
found on the side rod bushes !
Tyres also need replacing.
We are quoting for the work.
I have their permission to show the pics on the web.
Clive.
p.s. Also found a steam crane out there.
p.s. We got the job. Wheels and rods will be brought
over for attention to bushes and cranks.

Tony,
Some pics of todays little project which was to reduce the side play on the
LH side motion on 41312 and to replace a gradient pin bush.
1. The side rods removed from 41312
at 10am this morning.
2. The gradient pin bush pushed
out on the press at 11.20am.
3. Machining the new bush at
12.10pm.
4. The new bush pushed back into
the rod at 3.15pm.
5. The motion back on and 41312
ready for action again at 5.05pm.

24th June 2002:

Took some pics of the 9F's injectors when we had them apart. Found a few
problems.
1. A stud
which had come out of the live injector hinged cone had made its way to the
overflow valve and jammed the valve open. The stud can be seen in the pic
holding the valve open.
2,
3 &
4. The
valve body had been reassembled by previous repairers with the gasket only
on one stud causing the aperture to be severely restricted. This can be clearly
seen by the marks left by the scale. The stud can still be seen lodged inside.
Both injector bodies were severely furred up and needed complete descaling.
It is hoped loco will be back in service later in the week.

Injectors back in the 9F. It was warming up for weekend service
