Replacement of Ivatt cylinder liner at Mid-Hants Railway

Winter 2000-2001

6th March 2001: Class 11 pulls out the reassembled
Ivatt for steam test. David climbs up to screw it down.
3rd March 2001: Adrian Morris putting the Ivatt back together again now that ...
.. the piston is installed
1st March 2001: This new liner  was installed in the rhs cylinder of Ivatt 2-6-2 tank engine #41312 yesterday after dunking it in liquid nitrogen until it stopped bubbling. That's Mike Raindle tidying up the inner surface before we drilled holes through from the two draincocks (below) and for the two central oil pipes.

16th January 2001: The rhs piston, slidebars, etc.,  have been removed from #41312 for checking whilst the crosshead is re-metalled.

27th February 2001:  Liquid nitrogen will be used this week to shrink the liner in this cylinder for removal.

4th January 2001:  It's good to see Wayne back as a volunteer in the Loco Shed.  He's working on the Ivatt, which had just been shunted into the shed this afternoon for shelter during its routine boiler examination.
My little digital camera just fitted into the mudhole door on the shoulder of the firebox, so I poked it in and pressed the button.... Andy Netherwood saw these results on its little screen and started planning new inspection procedures right away!  More
