BR Standard 5 #73096

 

 

BR Standard 5  #73096   in late August 1999 was being prepared for its various inspections and certifications.  Its bogie was removed (wheeldrop job) to remedy a flattened spring.  The one you see under the paraffin bucket was OK, the one from other side went away 24th August 1999 for resetting and retempering.

   

We had the dome cover off to check the regulator

 David Sibley replaces a tender spring 26th August 1999.
Note that the wheeldrop has lowered the leading tender axle by a couple of inches to simplify the job.

31st August 1999  Keith Loughlin at the smokebox of the 5, reassembled with all its wheels, steam-tested, and apparently with only the dome cladding to replace for it to be ready for Saturday's excursion (4th September 1999) to Cambridge.
