9F  #92212 broke a spring (l.h.s. centre driving axle).  The spring was replaced in about two hours (on the wheeldrop) and the loco was back in service for the rest of the day

30th May 2002:   Keith Loughlin inside the smokebox of Canadian Pacific with John Dunkerley at the door (and Andy Netherwood in the firebox). The pile of scrap smoketubes soon grew.
The corroded smokebox floor was also removed for replacement, and Dave Sibley had cut some 3/16" plate to fit by mid-afternoon.

New tubes, just inside the shed door, had already had their ends annealed (so that they can be expanded to fit the tube-plates without splitting) and cleaned to bare metal.

U-Class #31625 ('James', alongside) is also having some boiler-tubes replaced.

Work proceeds on Nunney Castle.  The leading driving wheels have returned to Ropley Yard with one journal re-turned and the other polished.

Frank was preparing an axlebox for re-metalling the thrust face.

The face has been tinned with white metal, and an old crown added and Lutex moulded to form a chill ready for the white metal to be poured.
