3rd September 2004:

On top of Ivatt #41312, Geoff Meekums and Ken Plunkett were disconnecting the feed pipe to the rhs clack valve. Andy said this was the only thing left unchecked in the quest to find the cause of poor feed and water wastage at the rhs injector.

Result! Andy points out scaling so bad you couldn't get a finger past the first inch. Geoff and Ken cleaned out the scale, whilst tw made a new gasket for the joint face.

The Ivatt was lit up by the time they started reconnecting the feed pipe

Progress report on #92212

Photos (left) show state mid-morning, 3rd September. The smoke deflectors are painted, and will probably be fitted tomorrow. Pony truck will be assembled and fitted soon.

Early morning at Ropley.

Mike Burke inspects the recently-arrived Taw Valley (cunningly disguised as Ottery St Mary) before he starts oiling-up the Ivatt for service.

Our efforts soon attracted a curious audience

24th August 2004:

Work has begun to strip Thomas ready for replacement of his inner firebox. Arrangements have been made to hire a suitable replacement for the Easter 2005 event.

9F #92212 now has all driving wheels and coupling rods re-installed, leaving just the connecting rods, return cranks and return crank rods to go in.
9F smokebox is now in undercoat, and Duncan was up on top flatting the firebox cladding.

The loco is diagrammed for the Steam Gala (17th - 19th September 2004)

Duncan insisted that I photograph these plates, so to humour him ...

17th August 2004:

Duncan was today preparing the 9F pony truck frames for painting when he was diverted by an enquiry about Thomas faces (pic) from a young visitor from USA.

The box and wires are sensors for the TPWS.

On the pit we were working on sanders, brake rodding, and preparing to refit the side rods

16th August 2004:

The driving axles of 9F #92212 are back in the frames. Railway enthusiasts at our Thomas event last week had a good view from our picnic area of this wheeldrop operation *

Duncan is keen to have the loco moved into the shed now for painting, but there are still wheeldrop operations to be completed

Duncan Richardson has finished painting the 9F tender
... and was in the yard sanding its boiler cladding ready for the same green primer as is now covering the smokebox.

After temporarily refitting hornstays, we moved the 9F from the yard to the pit road, leaving more space for our Thomas visitors in the coming days.
