23rd August 2001:

Steam being released via steam-heating pipe to drop boiler pressure in readiness for Bodmin's routine boiler washout.

Ken and tw were shortly afterwards in the smokebox removing the spark arrestor and the plates for the self-cleaning smokebox system.  At least it was out of the rain!

23rd August 2001:

Along the pit lane, Andy was routinely cutting out and replacing ferrules on the flue tubes of S15 #30506. You are looking over the brick arch (black, bottom of picture) towards the rear tubeplate, from the firehole door. Nice warm, dry job for Andy on a wet day, all done by mid-afternoon.

The sacrificial  ferrules are inserted and expanded in the firebox end of the fluetubes to prevent the ends being burnt.
