27th February 2002:  

'Douglas' is now 'In Service'. Work was done today to adjust dragging tender brakes, but an inaccessible bracket under the tender was subsequently found to be fouling the brake rods and causing brakes to stay on.

27th February 2002:  

Inside cylinder of Bittern had been removed.

27th February 2002:  

Duncan almost half-way round with undercoat on the first car of #721 by mid-day.

27th February 2002:  

Leading driving axle of #35005 Canadian Pacific had been removed to inspect the RH axlebox. Note the scoring.

27th February 2002:  

Mid-afternoon: Old white metal removed, crown in the chill, Frank pouring new white metal.
The whole loco was back together and proved to M4M and back on midday Thursday 7th March 2002

27th February 2002:  

Surplus fire-damaged stock

Recycling contractors had already broken up Class 33 diesel #33204, and were half-way through this coach by mid-morning and ...

... by late afternoon the next coach had been shunted into position and most of the roof was off
20th February 2002:

Class 33 diesel #33204 was purchased as a parts donor. The 45-ton steam crane was used to remove the generator set to retain as a spare.


14th February 2002:  Outside cylinders have been lifted from the frames of A4 Bittern for access to repair a crack in the frames

 


   

8th February 2002:  

Neil Davis in the forge corner, tinning a connecting rod bush ready for re-metalling

Dave Sibley has completed through-piping CP for air brakes, and is well on the way to completing the same work on Bodmin

The first unit of Class 117 DMU #721 is in the shed for repainting to Brunswick Green. When it is in timetabled service, passengers can get a driver's eye view of the line (which they tell us they enjoy)

5th February 2002:  

'Fern' was moved to the yard to have the vestibule end fitted.

31st January 2002:  

Roger Thornton and Duncan Richardson at work on
'Fern'. The refurbishment is nearly finished

29th January 2002:  

Driving axle chocked on the wheeldrop whilst #34016 (Bodmin) axlebox crowns are replaced

Graham Varney was fitting four bulkhead lamps on the moveable section and said he'd thought of a way to improve the pump pipework for emptying the wheeldrop sump of water
