STATION VISIT - Bridges And Railways KS1

This Station Visit session is perfect for when there are no trains running and designed to inspire your groupís learning of the construction and use of railway bridges. 

The session will include:

  • The opportunity to explore a restored period station
  • Education activities lead by the Watercress Line Education Department
  • A team-work exercise to promote communication and planning

 A choice of educational activities including:

  • How are railways built? Your group will identify materials and techniques used for building different types of bridges.
  • Evaluating past and present designs. With the use of sketches, they have made onsite and the aid of photographs; your group have the opportunity to compare different railway bridges.  
  • Why does the railway need bridges? Our stations did not originally have bridges, your group will be asked to investigate why they were added later.

 Build-a-Bridge Competition

The dayís learning will culminate with the Build-a-Bridge Competition that will put your groupsí knowledge and what they have seen to the test.
