Home Education at the Railway

The safety and wellbeing of our visitors and staff is our priority and we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure their continued welfare. We will continue to actively monitor the situation with regards the outbreak of Covid-19 coronavirus and are reviewing and following the guidelines of Public Health England.

In line with government advice we are ceasing our services until at least the end of May.

There are a variety of ways for children who are educated at home to take part in learning opportunities at the Watercress Line. Whether you are looking for traditional led visits, information for projects, experience visits or child-led learning activities the railway can offer a unique learning destination.

 Home Educator's Days

Throughout the year we offer dedicated Home Educator's days with engaging and interactive sessions that cover a broad spectrum of subject areas. Our learning sessions are conducted at one of our period stations and feature hands on activities, opportunities to question, explore the station and engine yard and for role play. Keep an eye on our website for updates. You can book as a group or individually for any of our Home Ed Days but places are limited and payment is required on booking.

Dates for 2020 Home Education sessions will be published when normal running resumes.

Autumn 19 Home Educator Visits

Keeping Steam Alive - Bookings Closed

Our next home educator day will be a Station Visit at Ropley station on Thursday 14th November. We will be investigating how locomotives work and how we restore them. This session is for age 7 upwards due to the areas we intend to visit.

Please bring wellingtons as the yard can be wet at this time of year and wear outdoor clothing to suit the weather on the day.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times max 3 children /adult. To assist with managing the group in areas such as the workshop we ask that you do not bring more than 1 adult per child.

Costs £5 per child, supervising adults free. Places are limited and payment is required on booking.

Session times 10am - 12.30. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and to stay to explore the station or to use the education room for your own learning activities. Station facilities will close at 2.30pm.

Please park in the Visitor car park off Bighton hill.

To book please ring 01962 733810.

N. B. Due to the working nature of the areas we will be visiting, this session is not suitable for younger sibling to accompany the visit. Access to the locomotives being restored, the workshop area and the viewing gallery are all via steep steps.
